Resolving Advocacy Dilemmas

Resolving Advocacy Dilemmas

The Course Starts In

About the Course

Advocates often face ethical and practical dilemmas as they offer support to people.  From passionately promoting choices that may be ‘unwise’ or ‘risky’ to knowing when to challenge decisions on behalf of a person who might otherwise be unable to do so, advocates must be confident in identifying and resolving dilemmas.

This one day course offers a wonderful opportunity to explore common dilemmas, as well as resolving real life problems faced by participants.

Learning Plan

  • Understanding dilemmas |
Exploring what is a dilemma, why dilemmas exist and what happens when we face one.

  • Common Dilemmas |
A chance to explore common areas that cause dilemmas (for instacne working with people who don’t understand advocacy, families or professionals who don’t want you there, supporting people to make choices that others view as ‘risky’ or ‘unwise’)

  • Resolving Dilemmas |
Opportunity for participants to bring real life scenarios or problems that are causing dilemmas – with a strong emphasis on developing strategies to resolve them.

It was absolutely brilliant!  Can’t wait for the next one!

I was really impressed with the day, the tutor was very knowledgeable and involved everyone.  I will definitely be recommending this course to my colleagues

I absolutely loved the conference Kate and felt inspired by the end of it. What it did do for me was remind me somehow of why I actually went into advocacy in the first place (sometimes we seem to get so caught up on managerial things, policies and procedures etc that we can lose the person behind it all whether that be staff or service user). I felt that all the speakers spoke from the heart, they were clearly passionate about their roles and that was great. I found the whole day really enjoyable.
